Who We Are

Meaning of the SAC Logo

The SAC Ministry logo was derived from the Strategic Air Command shield that was a major command in the United States Air Force from 1946 – 1992.

The original Strategic Air Command (SAC) insignia was designed in 1951. The shield shape defines the overall mission – defense.  The blue background of the SAC crest meant that SAC's reach was through the sky and that it was global in scope.  The arm and armor are symbols of strength, power and loyalty. The fist holding lightning bolts symbolized destruction and military might. The olive branch represents peace.

In addition to the SAC crest, non-camouflaged SAC aircraft bore the SAC Stripe. The stripe consisted of a very dark blue background speckled with stars. The stripe appeared on the sides of SAC aircraft in the area of the cockpit running from the top to the bottom of the fuselage at an angle from 11:00 O'clock to 5:00 O'clock. The SAC crest was a bit wider than the stripe and was placed over the stripe. The stripe indicated that SAC was always ready to fulfill its mission.

Following the fall of the Soviet Union, the Air Force instituted a comprehensive reorganization of its major commands.  As part of this reorganization, SAC was disestablished on 1 June 1992.

In 2002, John Neese founded a ministry to orphans and hurting children of the former Soviet Union.   He named it “Strategic Angel Care (SAC)” to remember the history and connection of his former duties as an ICBM launch officer during the Cold War and his higher calling to a spiritual battle in the age of the church.

The new Strategic Angel Care logo was designed in 2002.  The shield shape was kept to define the SAC mission now – defense of orphans through Christ.  The blue background of the SAC logo still means it is global in scope.  The armor on the arm is removed along with the red lighting bolts that represented military might. The scar on the wrist implies this is the hand of Christ.  The olive branch remains to represent the peace that only Christ can give.  The cross, centered in the shield, means that the message of the cross is central to our beliefs.

The SAC stripe that adorned SAC aircraft and ICBM’s during the Cold War, is used on the Strategic Angel Care printed materials.  The stripe still means that the SAC ministry is always ready to fulfill God’s mission.

You can almost see the transformation that occurs from that armored fist to that open hand of Christ, bringing the message of the cross, stretching
