How We Serve

Our method and approach to serving the needs of orphans and hurting children overseas are different than many ministries.  Visiting a ministry site for an hour, lecturing them, handing out some candy and then getting back on a bus to go somewhere else is comfortable for foreign participants, but it’s not what the kids want or need.  After seeing several ministries use this method as their platform, SAC decided that it would do things differently.  This is how we serve!

  • Return to the Same Ministry Sites – SAC returns to the same ministry sites every year to bring a continuity of relationships with the children and the staff that works there.  By returning, they all see that SAC isn’t just a visitor, but a friend.

  • Spend as Much Time as Possible with the Kids – When SAC goes to a ministry site, our plan is to spend as much time that is allowed with the kids and go there everyday throughout that mission trip.  By doing this, we build lasting relationships with the kids and the staff.

  • Build Relationships – By spending time SAC fulfills our purpose to build relationships as we go.  In that way we build trust and create opportunities to share the love of Christ.  We do this through crafts, sports, and games.  This gives us credibility to share Biblical truths.

  • Share Biblical Truths – When SAC shares the love of Christ, we do not preach to the kids.  Our lessons are fun, short and usually involve a craft to reinforce the Biblical truth.  Often we use object lessons to draw them in and give them that “nugget” of spiritual truth.  Kids, and the adults surrounding them, hear and remember this Word more readily allowing the Holy Spirit to touch their hearts.

  • Humility – SAC enters ministry sites with respect, humility, and ready to serve as a servant of Christ with flexibility to their schedule not ours.  This approach has opened more doors and allowed the building of relationships with key staff at ministry sites.  Having humility gets us invited back!

  • Mentorship – Our ministry is focused on orphans and hurting children however, SAC recognizes that when our teams come there are translators, graduate orphans, sponsored children, church members, volunteers, and many other that need Christian mentorship.  SAC takes time, as part of our mission, to mentor and make disciples as we go.

  • Volunteerism – Often, SAC comes in contact with volunteers that live for longer periods in the city we are working come along side us as part of our ministry team.  After introductions, these volunteers may be allowed to come back to these ministry sites after our short-term mission team departs, and continue to spread the love of Christ.

  • Encouraging Nationals to Share their Testimony – Over the years, SAC has encouraged graduate orphans, translators, and others to share their personal testimony to small groups as our team works at a ministry site.  This grows them spiritually and leaves a legacy long after our team has departed.  Our experience has been that kids and adults will listen carefully to the testimony of someone that speaks their own language and has shared their own experience, like a former orphan or former drug user, much more than a foreigner speaking a foreign tongue.

  • Partnerships & Collaboration – SAC desires to work with other organizations and ministries to reach orphans and hurting children for Christ.  We work with the International Mission Board (IMB), Russian churches to further their outreach to their community, and many other ministries.  Weaving ministries together through partnership and collaboration allows us to show the same face of Christ among all that we encounter.
