Mission Trip Specific Job Description
Position: Translators
Purpose: To provide translation for mission trip participants so they can build relationships with orphans, hurting children and staff at ministry sites.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide translation services to trip participants and others as required by the Mission Trip Director.
Ensure all verbal communication by Russian speaking children and adults is translated back to the English speaking individual as exactly as possible.
In an effort to build relationships with children, ensure all side conversations, arguments, small talk, and even inappropriate talk are fully translated so trip participants can get a feel what is going on in the group.
Allow the trip participant to lead and organize the group activities, but at the same time this ministry wants translators to work to build relationships with the children as well.
Work with the trip participant to help them understand Russian culture, taboos, and traditions that they may not be aware of.
Help the trip participant understand non-verbal communication and cultural cues from children and staff workers that may not be noticed or understood.
Arrive at the ministry site assigned at the time appointed by the Mission Trip Director.
Keep an accurate log of hours worked on the timesheet provided by the Mission Trip Director.
Turn in the timesheet to the Mission Trip Director for payment on the last day of ministry.
