Dress Code Guidelines
These guidelines have been established for several reasons, but primarily for you to understand the importance of setting an appropriate example in the child focused environment of a SAC mission trip as well as to observe safety precautions and to reflect a Christian example in all that we do. These guidelines will be strictly adhered to and you will be asked to change clothes if you are not appropriately attired.
Be prepared to wear church clothes to church on Sunday. Men do not have to wear a suit and tie; however something other than jeans would be appropriate. Women do not have to wear dresses; however, a nice pants suit would be fine.
Clothing to wear at the ministry sites should be nice jeans and shirt or sweatshirts. Sweatpants are usually too loose for security reasons.
Trip Participants are encouraged to wear dark or subdued colored clothing so we mix better with the population. Bight colored clothing makes us stand out creates more of a target for thieves, pickpockets, and beggars.
Clothing should be tightly worn and not loose as this gives pickpockets an open invitation.
Expensive and excessive jewelry should be left at home. Diamond, gold or silver rings, earrings, and necklaces should not be worn or brought. Inexpensive watches should be worn. Expensive wear not only makes you a target for theft, but it sends the wrong message to orphans and children who are in great need.
White tennis shoes should be left at home. These will only get dirty and very worn due to the street conditions there, but it is an obvious sign that you are a tourist.
Brightly colored jackets or ski jackets that are big and bulky are not recommended. These also make you out to be a tourist and a target for pick pocketing.
Closed toed shoes should be worn at all times during the mission trip. Sandals are only worn in Russia during the summer months. In addition, closed toed shoes protect your feet from blisters and injury.
When there is an opportunity to swim or go to a sauna, all mission trip participants are expected to wear one-piece bathing suits appropriate for your gender.
Trip participants should not wear adult subject matter t-shirts, profanity, alcohol or cigarette advertising.
